Introducing AIT Austrian Institute of Technology

The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology is Austria’s largest applied research institute. Among the European research institutes, AIT is a specialist in the key infrastructure issues of the future. As an independent RTO it takes a leading position in the Austrian innovation system and regards itself as a highly specialized research and development partner for industry and a top employer within the international scientific community. With its seven centers, AIT enables innovation for the next generation of infrastructure related technologies.

The Center for Vision, Automation & Control (VAC) is one of a total of 7 research units at AIT. It is dedicated to industrial automation and digitalization, in order to initiate and drive innovation for the industry. At VAC, around 120 experts are currently working in close cooperation with partners from industry and science e.g. in the fields of high-speed sensing, computational imaging and deep learning for industrial quality inspection as well as environment perception, localization and mapping for large scale robotic systems such as commercial vehicles, and assistance systems.

In the Machine Vision Lab, the Center presents its latest technologies for high-performance systems for optical, non-contact inspection of static and moving objects, challenging surfaces and structures at scalable sizes. The prototypical high-performance inspection systems presented here are successfully used both nationally and internationally and have already received several awards.
